Rocio Cifuentes, Children’s Commissioner for Wales, is to be awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for her services to the community in Wales.
Responding to the news, Rocio Cifuentes, said:
“What began as a very personal story for me and my family arriving in Wales as refugees from Chile, turned into a life-purpose. My career and focus as a volunteer to-date have been on supporting some of society’s most vulnerable by empowering people to be the change they want to see in the world. For my efforts to be acknowledged this way is truly humbling. This work requires significant team effort and I’m accepting this award on behalf of the many members of staff and volunteers who’ve supported my efforts to-date.
“But my work to provide the most vulnerable a voice hasn’t finished. I have the incredible honour of serving as the country’s children’s commissioner for the next seven years and will use this opportunity to really empower children to speak their truth, to be heard and to push for the changes that they want to see and need to happen to safeguard their rights.”
