Welcoming the UN Committee’s concluding observations, making recommendations to the UK Government and devolved governments, including Welsh Government, Rocio Cifuentes MBE said:
“All the recommendations are vitally important for UK Government and Welsh Government to respond to but today want to highlight the recommendations around child poverty. Like I and many others have the committee calls for governments to have “clear targets, measurable indicators and robust monitoring and accountability mechanisms” for ending child poverty.
“The committee also calls on the UK Government to scrap the cruel two-child limit and benefits cap.
“I will press Welsh Government on how they will respond in full to the Committee’s recommendations where these affect Wales.”
In November 2022 the commissioner joined her counterparts in Scotland and Northern Ireland in producing a joint report to the UN on children’s rights issues in the devolved nations.
