We’ve worked hard once again this year to protect and promote children’s rights in Wales.
Here’s our year in numbers
- We engaged with 9857 children and young people across Wales at events, workshops, and meetings
- We responded to 29 Assembly, Welsh and UK Governments’ consultations
- We directly trained around 700 children and young people to be rights ambassadors in their schools or communities
- The Commissioner personally met with around 100 groups of children and young people
- We published 6 reports on topics ranging from learning disabilities to child poverty
- Our education resources on Hwb were viewed 11,771 times
- We consulted with over 10,000 children and young people to inform our new three-year plan
- We worked with at least 54 working groups and organisations on a range of children’s rights issues
- We undertook our first-ever education rights survey, securing 391 teacher responses and 6392 responses from children and young people.
- We managed 671 cases through our independent Investigations and Advice service
- We secured at least 640 pieces of broadcast and print coverage for the organisation, resulting in over 131 million opportunities to read or hear about our work
Our recommendations to Welsh Government include:
- Giving all young people with additional learning needs safe and suitable transport to their place of education
- Making sure schools record all reported bullying, and use the information to plan, monitor and evaluate their approaches to tackling bullying
- Publishing a Child Poverty Delivery Plan, showing what they will do to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children in Wales, and how they will do it
- To urgently show how they will keep working to improve mental health care for young people after the Together for Children and Young People programme comes to an end
